Stranger Things

When it comes to literature, absurdism is a genre that typically portrays characters trying – and failing – to find purpose and meaning in life. A lot of what occurs in the story feels slightly redundant or nonsensical, and it often incorporates satire and humor.

Your challenge is to write a short story that feels absurd – whether that's because the events that take place seem highly unlikely, because the reader is never quite sure what's going on, or because it reflects upon the meaning (or lack thereof) of life:

1.      Write a story about a character trying to determine whether life has meaning or reason.
2.      Write a story about a character who can't figure out when they're dreaming or awake.
3.      Write a story about a club devoted entirely to predicting the future.
4.      Write a story about a character or group of characters who are waiting for something. Leave it unclear who or what they are waiting for.
5.      Write a story about a character who is certain the world is going to end today.
